A school dinner lady in Witney is celebrating after matching five main numbers and the bonus ball to win £121,340 in the Lotto draw on Saturday 9 August, 2008. Michelle Drinkwater, who is 39, marked the occasion by having a party with her husband Paul and their two children Sophie and Gemma, who are aged 14 and 10.
Initially, Michelle thought that she had won much less than she really had. “I thought I had matched five numbers, winning £1,404,” she explained. “Paul and I were thrilled and decided we’d put the money towards a family party and some needed car repairs. It was only when I went to collect my winnings that I realised I had actually matched five numbers plus the bonus ball and had won £121,340.”
And how did it feel to make that discovery having mentally come to terms with a modest four-figure win? “I was shaking like a leaf,” Michelle said. “I simply couldn’t believe it! I rang Paul straight away to tell him the good news.”
The National Lottery winning numbers on Saturday 9 August were 9, 10, 17, 29, 33 and 40. The bonus ball was number 15. Michelle has been playing the lottery for ten years, and always buys her tickets from her local Spar store.
Thanks to Michelle’s win of £121,340, Paul’s car troubles were brought to an end when the couple bought a brand new Vauxhall Astra. Other purchases are in the pipeline, and Michelle and Paul are also planning to reduce their mortgage.
