Will Lotto Soon Reach its New Jackpot Cap?
Last Updated: Friday 2nd September 2016, 12:27
A run of four rollovers has created a jackpot of £14 million for tonight’s Lotto draw, giving ticket holders the opportunity to play for a life-changing amount of money. It has already been a summer of monumental Lotto wins, but if nobody manages to match all six main numbers soon, the jackpot could be set to reach its new cap.
The jackpot can now reach the value of £22 million before the cap comes into effect. Once it reaches £22 million or goes past that point, the top prize can then roll over just one more time. The jackpot must then be won in the following draw, meaning that if all six main numbers are not matched by any participant, the money will be split between the players who have matched the most winning numbers on the night.
The jackpot cap helps to add to the excitement of the game and potentially offers ticket holders the chance to win bigger prizes without having to match all the numbers. For example, it is possible that a player could win close to £30 million just by matching five of the main numbers plus the Bonus Ball if no one else is able to match six main numbers in the draw where the jackpot must be won. See the Rollovers page for more information on how the jackpot cap works.
While the new jackpot cap could come into action in the next couple of weeks, ticket holders across the UK will be hoping that they can get their hands on £14 million in tonight’s game. The last time the top prize was won was on Saturday 13th August, when a single player scooped £16.1 million.
The last few draws have still been remarkable, even with no jackpot winners. There were 67 extra prizes given away in last Saturday’s game, one for each of the medals won by Team GB at Rio 2016, including 27 additional prizes of £1 million to represent all the golds brought back from the Olympics. Visit the Lotto Results section to see all the winning codes and a full prize breakdown.
If you want to be in with a chance of winning this evening’s jackpot, then make sure to play Lotto online or visit an authorised retailer for tickets. If nobody lands the top prize, then it will move closer towards the jackpot cap, but it might just be that someone wins the lot tonight. Good luck!
