Welsh Postman Scoops £2.6 Million on Lotto

A postman from Barry in South Wales is now £2.6 million to the good after scooping £2.6 million in the Lotto draw on Wednesday 8th July. Matt Evans bought a Lotto ticket on the Tuesday before the draw and promptly stuffed it in his pocket, forgetting about it until the following Friday night. After finishing work, the 35-year-old went down to the shop to check his numbers.
“The machine started going crazy,” Matt said in Wales Online. "The girl behind the counter told me [to] sign the ticket and ring the lottery people. I started thinking I must have won around £20,000.”
Matt, who lives with his parents (though probably not for much longer), got home and asked his father to double-check the ticket for him before calling Camelot. “When I called them to check they just asked me ‘are you ready for this?’ My dad was next to me screaming, it was unbelievable.”
He then celebrated quietly with his parents before heading out with his mates to watch The Ashes First Test. Matt treated his sister on Sunday to some kitchen upgrades and repairs and is excited to trade in his 16-year-old Lexus for something a little nicer. A house is on the cards as well.
The keen Cardiff City follower says that the new influx of cash won’t translate into splurging on box seats for next season, though he says he’ll do his best to go support Wales at the Euro 2016 finals if the team makes it.
“I’ve always loved watching sport,” he said, “and this win means that as well as looking after my family, I can travel the world, watching my teams play.” He also plans to keep his job as a postman.
You don’t have to be a Cardiff City fan to follow in Matt’s footsteps - just pick up a Lotto ticket online or from authorised retailers for tonight’s draw to be in with a chance of winning the life-changing sum of £2.1 million. You could be setting off to watch CF America host Manchester United on Saturday 18th July if you get those tickets in now. Just make sure to sign them and put them in a safe place, or else you’ll risk losing out!
