The Winner of the £123 Million EuroMillions Jackpot Is From the UK

Last Updated: Wednesday 23rd September 2020, 10:01

The biggest EuroMillions jackpot seen so far this year was won in last night’s draw, and it went to one ticket holder from the UK. The prize was worth £123 million and the lucky winner has jumped to third place on the UK’s all-time lottery rich list.

Superdraw Rolled Over

The nine-figure sum was arrived at after a Superdraw was held on Friday 7th June, in which the jackpot was bumped to an impressive £115 million. There were no jackpot winners in that draw, so the prize money rolled over to the following draw on Tuesday, and that’s where the lucky UK player struck gold.

The winning ticket matched the numbers 25, 27, 39, 42, and 46, with Lucky Stars 11 and 12, to win the jackpot. There were over half a million winners in the UK in total, and between them they took home another £3 million in prize money. Another UK ticket holder also became a millionaire after matching the winning code VFMF87851 in the Millionaire Maker raffle.

You can see a complete prize breakdown and all the other details from Tuesday’s draw on the EuroMillions Results page.

Winner Still to Claim

As yet, there has been no word from the National Lottery as to whether the jackpot winner has come forward to claim their prize, but they have 180 days to do so. Once they do begin the claims process, they will have the choice between remaining anonymous or going public about their win. Regardless of their decision, the National Lottery says it is committed to providing the winner with all the support they need to adjust to their new life as a multi-millionaire.

Andy Carter, the Senior Winners’ Advisor for the National Lottery, said: “This year has been truly incredible for UK EuroMillions players, with four jackpot winners so far on these shores.

“Patrick and Frances Connolly from Northern Ireland won the £114.9m EuroMillions jackpot in the draw on New Year's Day, Ade Goodchild banked £71m in March and an anonymous ticket holder bagged £35.2m in April.”

EuroMillions players in the UK are now being encouraged to check their tickets to see if they have the winning line.

Third-Biggest UK Win

This latest jackpot win overtakes the one won by an anonymous player in April 2018 as the third-biggest ever seen in the UK. It comes just six months after Frances and Patrick Connolly from Northern Ireland won £114 million in this year’s New Year’s Day draw.

Colin and Chris Weir from Largs, Ayrshire, have held the record for the biggest UK win for nearly eight years, after they took home £161 million in July 2011. They have since donated funds to the Scottish National Party and set up their own charitable trust.

The only thing keeping Adrian and Gillian Bayford from the top spot on the UK lottery rich list when they won in August 2012 was an unfavourable exchange rate. They won €190 million - €5 million more than the Weirs - but as the exchange rate from Euros to sterling was not as strong as it was the previous year, they ended up with £148 million, over £10 million less than their Scottish counterparts.

The EuroMillions jackpot resets to its starting value of £14 million for the next draw on Friday 14th June. You can enter by buying tickets from any licensed lottery retailer in the UK, or by choosing your numbers online.
