UK EuroMillions Winner Claims £57.9 Million Jackpot
Last Updated: Wednesday 23rd September 2020, 10:02
The UK player who won a £57.9 million EuroMillions jackpot earlier this month has been congratulated by National Lottery officials after coming forward to claim their prize. The lucky ticket holder becomes the country’s 14th biggest lottery winner.
The prize dates back to the draw on Tuesday 10th July, when only one ticket from across the nine participating nations matched all the numbers drawn. Players in the UK were urged to check their entries, but there was initially no word from the winner.
While UK winners have 180 days to come forward and claim any prizes, Camelot had planned to reveal more information this week about where the ticket was sold in an effort to jog players’ memories. That has not been required, though, as the winner has now staked their claim a fortnight after the draw took place.
‘An Amazing Win’
It is the 73rd EuroMillions jackpot to be won in the UK and one of the biggest in the history of the National Lottery. Senior Winners’ Advisor Andy Carter said: “What an amazing win for one lucky UK ticket holder.
“This win ranks at number fourteen in the list of the biggest ever National Lottery winners and we look forward to helping them begin to enjoy their win.”
Carter added: “By buying a ticket for EuroMillions or any other National Lottery game, every player is helping to raise money for Good Causes. On average, around £30 million is raised every week for projects across the UK, both big and small, including funding everything from local community projects to preserving the nation's heritage.”
EuroMillions winners in the UK can decide whether to stay anonymous or go public if they wish to share their story. Regardless of which they choose, winners will be given the same level of support from the team of National Lottery advisors as they come to terms with their newfound wealth. No further details have been released about the latest winner.
The record for the largest lottery prize ever claimed in the UK is £161.6 million. Scottish couple Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in Ayrshire, scooped this sensational jackpot in the summer of 2011 and have gone on to do lots of charitable work.
EuroMillions Jackpot Back Up To £42 Million
The EuroMillions jackpot was won again on Friday 13th July but has been rolling over for the past three draws and is now back up to £42 million. If you want to try and emulate the latest UK winner and snap up a fantastic prize, you can get involved in Friday’s draw by visiting any authorised retailer or taking part online.
