A Solid Gold instant win of £90,000 has given a builder from Kent in the UK a definite spring in his step. Danny Startup, who is just 18 years old, had bought a National Lottery scratchcard only once before, so the five figure instant windfall came on his second ever attempt – and he risked the last £2 in his pocket to buy the ticket.
Instant lottery games come in all shapes and sizes (links to some great online instant games can be found elsewhere on this site). The Solid Gold game features two games and eight chances of winning. The top prize is worth £90,000, but smaller prizes are available and the odds of winning any of them are 1 in 4.65.
“I was at home with my mum when I realised I’d won and I couldn’t believe it!” Danny said. “I asked my mum to double-check the Scratchcard. I was amazed when she said I had definitely won.”
Danny’s father Steve recalled how his son dealt with the win rather calmly: “We were all in shock when Danny revealed the great news, but Danny just took it all in his stride,” he said. “I don’t think it has really sunk in for him yet but we’re all so delighted for him. The win really sets him up well for the future.”
The young builder lives with his parents, and his planning to treat himself to an LCD television for his bedroom. As for the rest, that will be invested for the future.
National Lottery scratchcards can be played by anyone aged 16 or over, and as Danny Startup has demonstrated, youth is no barrier to becoming a winner.
