One of last Saturday’s UK Lotto jackpot winners has come forward to claim his prize just days after matching all six numbers and scooping half the jackpot.
Brian McTigue, 66 from Liverpool, bought three tickets for Saturday’s £5.7 million jackpot draw from the Co-Op on West Derby Road and initially thought he had won just £25. “I checked my first ticket on the television and I was delighted to discover I had matched three numbers,” Brian told lottery officials. Brian went on to say he then left the room to cook his Sunday dinner, before remembering later that night to check his other two tickets.
“I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing. It was just an amazing feeling that I could have won the UK Lotto jackpot. I checked, checked and checked again that what I was seeing really was true!”
Brian, who plays the same three lines each week which comprise of numbers made up from birthdays and other special dates, says he felt a “whole mix of emotions” upon realising he had won £2.8 million, half of Saturday night’s jackpot. “I still cannot believe that this huge amount of money is really mine. It just doesn’t seem real. I feel numb.”
While Brian is already deciding how to spend his money, with plans including a first class trip to Thailand and a second home in Liverpool, the other half of Saturday’s jackpot remains unclaimed.
