Lotto Player Becomes Biggest Winner of 2017 With £24.5 Million Prize

A lucky Lotto player has been congratulated after netting an astonishing prize of £24.5 million in Wednesday night’s eagerly-awaited draw. The ticket holder instantly became the biggest Lotto winner of the year, and their success was all the more remarkable as they did not even have to match all six main numbers.
Lotto Jackpot
Wednesday’s winning numbers were 18, 36, 48, 57, 58 and 59, with Bonus Ball 50. The jackpot had to be won after going past its £22 million cap in the previous draw, but nobody was able to match the six main numbers so the money had to roll down to the next highest tier in which there were winners.
There was only one participant who matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball, and they ended up with a multimillion-pound sum. The final amount was not only far more than a player in this tier would normally expect to receive; it was also the largest amount given to anyone on Lotto in 2017. When the jackpot has previously surpassed its £22 million cap in 2017, the prize has been shared between multiple ticket holders.
“Wow - a single ticket holder has banked the £24.5 million jackpot in this special must-be-won draw. The jackpot rolled down and they only matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball to bank the biggest sum won on Lotto in 2017,” said Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor.
