A couple from Horsham in West Sussex are celebrating after matching all six main Lotto numbers on Saturday 05 July. Bob Green and his wife Pat won a half share of the £4,698,110 jackpot, and are now £2,349,055 richer.
Bob and Pat are the proud owners of Green’s Garage in Horsham, and they have played the National Lottery ever since it started in November 1994. They usually buy their tickets from the same retailer every week, but on this occasion a change of plan meant that they had to visit a different shop instead. It was a change of routine that the couple will undoubtedly view as being a lucky one.
However, it could have been very different, as Pat explained: “We’ve always used the same numbers, which were chosen at random, but Bob had recently complained that they weren’t winning numbers so had been telling me to change them. Luckily I hadn’t got around to actually doing it!”
Describing how they discovered their £2.3 million win, Pat said: “I was in the kitchen with my grandchildren checking my numbers in the paper as usual. I couldn’t believe it when I realised that our numbers matched the draw. I waited for my son to come home and got him to check the ticket against the paper. We were stunned. My youngest grandchild couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about!”
The couple have three children and seven grandchildren and are currently deciding how they can best put their multi-million pound win to good use. One thing that is already on Bob’s agenda is a trip to Isle of Man. “I’ve always wanted to go to the Isle of Man TT and am delighted that now I can finally go,” he said.
