An 80-year-old retired greengrocer from North Yorkshire, who describes himself as “born lucky”, has won a £250,000 windfall on the National Lottery’s Hot Money scratchcard. Mike Skipsey of Thirsk bought the ticket whilst picking up his usual newspapers and sat down with a cup of tea to scratch it. Not believing he had just won a quarter of a million pounds, Mike rang the claims line to have the good news confirmed and admitted he hasn’t stopped shaking since.
Mike said of his good fortune, “I’ve always said I was born lucky and that good things will happen to good people but I couldn’t believe that I’d ever win on the National Lottery. This win is going to open up so many doors for my family and I.” He now intends to help out his three adult children and eight grandchildren financially and will also treat himself to a new car.
The lucky winner can now also spend more time indulging in two of his great passions in life - fishing and his beloved garden. “The garden has been my pride and joy since retiring,” said Mike, ”so now, thanks to this win, I’ll get the chance to make it even better!”
Mike admitted that he bought the scratchcard on a whim because he was feeling lucky, stating that the ticket that would eventually bring him his good fortune simply caught his eye at the right moment. If you fancy trying your luck, there are a host of online scratchcards available to play right now at the dedicated page. You can also find a list of the remaining jackpots available on scratchcards bought from retailers, which can be found at the National Lottery Scratchcard Prizes page. Good luck!
