It’s almost the end of yet another year and for many of us that means it’s time to reflect. It’s not just people that are reflecting either, the National Lottery has just announced end of year figures and during 2010, 158 lottery millionaires were created in the UK. It’s an amazing number and an increase of 26 on 2009, much of which is due to a trend in shared lottery jackpots in 2010. Although this does show that when more jackpots are shared, more people become millionaires, increasing the chances for more of us to win at least something.
In total, during 2010 £775 million was paid out in the UK in lottery prizes, it’s the highest amount ever paid out in the UK since the launch of the UK Lotto in late 1994. Back in October the National Lottery announced that they had created 2,500 millionaires since its launch and that figure is now higher again thanks to some big jackpots and special draws.
Who could forget the two Euromillions records set this year? First Nigel Page scooped over £50 million, becoming the UK’s biggest ever lottery winner, a record that was smashed just a few weeks later by a £113 million winner.
Into 2011 we have more big lottery jackpots to look forward to and hopefully more special lottery draws such as the special Millionaire Raffle draws we have recently all enjoyed, and maybe 2011 will be the year for you to become a lottery millionaire.
