Welsh Couple Cook Up £1 Million EuroMillions Win

A chef from Llanharry in Wales has revealed that he ‘never had any luck in anything’ before winning a £1 million National Lottery prize with his wife. David and Stacey Taylor can now mark their first wedding anniversary in even more style as they look forward to splashing out on their dream house and a couple of new cars.
The lucky couple matched the winning Millionaire Maker code in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 24th January. The ticket was purchased at the Co-Op in Pontyclun, although David admitted at a media event in Cardiff on Wednesday that he couldn’t remember buying it.
He found out he had won when he checked his ticket on his phone in the early hours of Saturday morning. After a restless night, he put the ticket in their safe and sent a photo of the winning Millionaire Maker code to Stacey, who was at work. The message read: “I’m going to send you another photo in a minute - give me a ring when you’ve seen it.”
David said: “She didn’t believe me and was so excited when she called back. It was unbelievable really - it still is.” Having been a chef since leaving school, David is now planning to reduce his hours so he can be at home more with Stacey and their two children. She has no intention of giving up her job as a nursing assistant in a care home.
They have not got carried away with any spending yet but have got plenty of ideas about how they will put their new-found wealth to good use, including an exciting summer holiday. The kids have also been encouraged to pitch in with their suggestions, although so far all they have asked for is some new games for the PlayStation.
One of the main considerations for David is upgrading the two family cars, and he is thinking they will go for a couple of SUVs. “While I would love an Audi R9, these seem like the most practical luxury option for our family at the moment,” he said.
“I can’t wait to start going for test drives, but we won’t be getting the cars until we’ve bought our dream house with a driveway to put them on. We’ve bought a few bits and bobs – from the supermarket mostly, with our usual shop. But it’s been so nice to hand over my card, knowing we’ve got plenty in the bank.”
EuroMillions Jackpot Up To £55 Million
The EuroMillions jackpot is currently worth £55 million going into Friday night’s draw, following four consecutive rollovers since it was last won on Tuesday 11th February. A Spanish player had also won £110 million in a Superdraw on Friday 7th February,
One UK player is also guaranteed to win £1 million in the Millionaire Maker alongside every EuroMillions draw, just like David and Stacey Taylor did. The odds of winning this prize depend on how many tickets are sold but are always considerably better than the odds of winning the main jackpot.
Special draws also take place from time to time in which multiple winning codes are drawn instead of the usual one. On Tuesday 4th February, for example, there were 20 winners of £1 million.
