UK Player Wins EuroMillions

A EuroMillions player in the UK matched all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars to win the triple rollover jackpot on Friday 12 June, 2009. Another lottery player in Ireland achieved the same thing, so the £50 million jackpot will be shared to make each lucky ticket-holder £24,951,269 richer!
The British winner was Brian Caswell, who is 73 years old and enjoys growing vegetables on his allotment. He intends to spend some of his fortune on a trip to Rio, and who can blame him. The Irish winner has yet come forward to claim their millions, so if you’re a player in Ireland and you haven’t yet checked your tickets, you should do so now!
Lots of lottery jackpot winners take a few days to let the reality of their lottery success sink in before making a claim. That isn’t something that we would recommend, because it makes it possible to lose that all-important winning ticket. Of course, if you buy lottery tickets online then that can’t happen, and enjoying a few more days of relative anonymity is something you can choose to do quite safely.
We mention anonymity because the media is always very keen to identify winners of particularly large jackpots. Although a jackpot winner can request ‘no publicity’ from the lottery organiser, that doesn’t mean that his or her identity will actually remain a secret – it just means that it won’t be shouted from the rooftops. Tabloid newspapers actively encourage anyone who knows a lottery winner to ‘share’ the information – usually in exchange for a financial reward – so in many cases the win doesn’t remain a secret for very long.
Of course, if you have £25 million in the bank you could afford to buy yourself a certain amount of privacy, but the fact remains that lottery jackpot winners are a very popular kind of celebrity in their own right, and getting used to that is something that takes time.
Another thing that takes time to sink in is the sheer magnitude of a £25 million win. Whilst we all have our lottery fantasies about what we would do if our lottery results came up trumps, most of us would actually be able to fulfil all of them with a million or two. So what would we do with the remaining £23 million or so? That’s a question that all major lottery winners must ask themselves at some point.
Whether the unknown winner in Ireland is considering all of these questions, or hasn’t yet discovered that they have a need to do so, we offer them our congratulations. We also congratulate Brian Caswell, who is now the third biggest lottery prize winner in the UK.
As for everyone else, the EuroMillions jackpot has now been reset and you have £12 million to play for this Friday 19 June, 2009. Buy your tickets today and good luck!
