The win came after Trotter, an amateur racing driver, purchased five Lucky Dip tickets for Friday’s draw on his way to work after he had a feeling he “just had to play.” As luck would have it, one of the tickets purchased by the mechanic of 15 years matched all seven numbers from Friday’s draw to scoop the life-changing prize.
Trotter, along with his partner of eight years, Nicky Ottaway, spoke at the press conference earlier today about the moment they found out about their win. Checking his ticket late on Friday evening, Trotter couldn’t believe it when he discovered he had matched all of the numbers drawn. “I turned white as a sheet and couldn’t sit still. I got her [Nicky] to check the numbers with me and she started screaming.”
Trotter then decided to phone his father with the good news to which his father replied, “What have you been drinking?” At that point Trotter hadn’t had a drop of alcohol but later on decided to celebrate with two bottles of Bud.
Speaking at the conference, the couple said that they decided to go public with their win because they did not want to keep it a secret from family and friends. “I didn’t want to disappear and hide…I didn’t want to be deceitful to all my friends,” Trotter said. “I thought it would be easier to tell everyone and get it out in the open.”
With their new found fortune, the couple plan to buy a new home with room for a horse and as well as treating themselves to new car each. They also want to share their win with their nearest and dearest with Trotter saying that he wishes to help his younger sister who “has been struggling lately.”
This win puts Trotter fourth on the UK winners list behind Chris and Colin Weir who scooped £161 million in July 2011, Adrian and Gillian Bayford who took home £148 million in August 2012 and an anonymous UK player who claimed their prize of £113 million in October 2010.
