Tewkesbury Mum Marks Big National Lottery Win With A Curry

Last Updated: Wednesday 31st October 2018, 15:26

A woman from Gloucestershire has revealed how she was ‘overcome with emotions’ after winning £100,000 on a National Lottery scratchcard. Mandy Carter decided to celebrate by having a curry from her local on the High Street - with extra naan - and is now looking forward to enjoying the win with her family.

Mandy, from Tewkesbury, had not intended to play when she popped into Morrisons on Barton Road, but she saw a Christmas Countdown scratchcard on its own in the rack and decided to buy it. She did not find out she was a winner until later when she got back into her car and looked more closely.

“I thought I had won £100 but realised there was a combo,” she said. “I rubbed my eyes and and checked closely, rubbed my eyes and checked again. I realised there was a couple more zeros. It was £100,000.”

Mandy took her family out for dinner and described it as a surreal experience, saying: “I was looking around wondering if anyone knew that I had won or that something exciting was going on. My daughter finally believed me when I showed her the winning scratchcard.”

Mandy says she is now taking some time to let the news sink in before she decides what to do with the money, but she has already paid off a few bills and bought a new three-piece suite, while she would like to take her family away on holiday.

Mandy added that she ‘can’t quite believe it has happened’, but there are a huge range of instant cash prizes available from retailers for as little as £1 per ticket. Go to the Scratchcards page to find out more about the different games and see how many top prizes are still up for grabs.

Search Is On For £16.5 Million Lotto Winner

One of the largest Lotto jackpots of the year was won on Saturday evening as a single player snapped up £16.5 million. They matched the winning numbers 1, 6, 25, 26, 31 and 39, and must now come forward within 180 days to claim their prize.

The top prize had not previously been won since three participants split £26.4 million on 3rd October. The jackpot will now reset to £1.8 million for the next draw on Wednesday.

EuroMillions has also shot up to £77 million ahead of Friday night’s game following a run of seven rollovers. You can take part in either Lotto or EuroMillions by visiting an authorised retailer or playing online.
