A shop assistant from Forfar in Scotland got an unexpected bonus worth £1 million when she purchased a EuroMillions ticket from the newsagents she had worked in for 18 years. Janette Robertson, 65, won the prize on the special 100 Millionaires Raffle on 26th July 2013 and was one of 100 UK winners to win £1 million.
Janette found out she was one of the 100 winners the day after the draw after checking her tickets upon starting work. She said she was in “utter disbelief” and made her boss, Ian, read out the winning numbers twice to make sure she hadn’t made a mistake. It was only when she checked the machine for herself that she realised she was a winner.
Thanks to the win Janette, who had been planning her retirement, can now bring her retirement plans forward and she plans to spend lots of quality time with her husband, Dennis, children and grandchildren. However she hasn’t forgotten to treat herself, as her first purchase was a brand new Mini!
If Janette’s story has made you think about what you would buy if you became a millionaire, the good news is that there are still nine unclaimed £1 million prizes from the 100 UK Millionaire Raffle on 26th July 2013. If you have not gotten around to checking your tickets from then, don’t worry, as you still have time to claim. View a list of all current unclaimed lottery prizes in the UK.
If you weren’t a winner, don’t worry, as there are plenty more opportunities to become a lottery millionaire this week! Tonight sees a brand new UK Lotto jackpot of £2 million after Saturday’s top prize was shared between three ticket holders and Friday’s EuroMillions draw has a rollover jackpot of an estimated €25 / £21 million.
