The People’s Postcode Lottery has revealed that it will give a greater proportion of money raised from ticket sales to good causes. Previously, 25 percent of the entry price was transferred to charitable organisations supported by the lottery, but now that will rise to 27.5 percent - 55p for every £2 ticket sold.
The move places the People’s Postcode Lottery just behind the National Lottery, where 28 percent of money raised from Lotto, EuroMillions, Thunderball and its other games is donated to charity. Since it began, the People’s Postcode Lottery has raised over £75.6 million for charitable organisations in the UK and more than €6.6 billion for causes around the globe. More than 1,500 causes across a vast spectrum of fields, including culture, the environment and children’s welfare, have been supported with grants ranging from a few hundred pounds to a few million.
The lottery pledged £21.8 million in 2014 and, it is hoped, that should increase to £38 million for 2015 as a result of the extra funding from sales. Good causes that have benefitted from the game include War Child, which aims to minimise the suffering of young people in combat zones, the Riding for the Disabled Association and the National Trust.
