Nominations Open for 2015 National Lottery Awards

Nominations for the 2015 National Lottery Awards have now opened to members of the public who want to recognise the vital role that lottery-funded programs play in contemporary British society. The Good Causes Fund, established alongside the National Lottery itself in 1994, uses revenue raised through ticket sales to support the arts, sport, education, heritage and other initiatives. Over £33 million is generated for good causes each week through sales of tickets for Lotto, EuroMillions, instants and various other games.
Projects must be based in the UK and cannot have won a National Lottery Award in the last five years. They must also have received funding from the National Lottery at some point in time since 1994. The list of finalists is announced after entries have closed and voting is opened to the public for the prestigious event. Broadcast on BBC One, the awards show features a star-studded cast that helps celebrate each of these finalists and all recipients of Good Causes funding.
One winner is selected in each of the seven award categories - Heritage, Arts, Environment, Sport, Education, Health and Voluntary/Charity. Winners in each division don’t just receive a shiny award and a “thank you” - they’ll also get £2,000 to spend on their projects, helping them to support their current work and better serve their communities.
Last year’s National Lottery Awards winners included Come Eat Together, a County Durham-based project that organised cooking classes and healthy eating lessons for the elderly, and the Jubilee Sailing Trust, which helps people of all abilities learn to sail in two specially-built tall ships. All entries for the 2015 awards must be received by 11.59pm UK time on Wednesday 25th March. If you think that a lottery-funded project in your area deserves its moment in the spotlight, make sure to get your nomination in before entries close.
