National Lottery Awards winners revealed

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 14:55

After the build-up, all the celebrity gossip and the newspapers printing photographs that looked like a red-carpet event, it would be easy to forget what the National Lottery Awards are actually all about. But these awards aren’t just a celebrity showdown, they mean so much to many lottery-funded projects and now this year’s National Lottery Awards winners have been revealed, one from each category.

Each year the National Lottery takes to the public vote to chose the nation’s favourite lottery funded projects and each year seven winners emerge from hundreds of applicants from around the UK.

On Saturday evening it was John Barrowman and Tess Daley presenting the winners from each category with their prize and they were:

  • Best Arts Project – Beacon Hill Film Project
  • Best Education Project – HMS Cavalier
  • Best Environmental Project – Bumblebee Conservation Trust
  • Best Health Project – Access to Citizenship
  • Best Heritage Project – Isle of Wight Railway Restoration
  • Best Sport project – Children’s Able & Disabled Sport
  • Best Voluntary/Charity Project – Little Havens Children’s Hospice

This is the seventh year of the National Lottery Awards, introduced to recognise the difference that lottery money makes to people and projects around the UK. It’s just one way of distributing National Lottery cash for good causes, an organisation that has paid out 340,000 lottery grants since the launch of the National Lottery in 1994.

Every time you buy lottery tickets you are adding to the fund for good causes and this weekend you have plenty of chance to do so. Tonight there’s a £12 million Euromillions jackpot to get your hands on and then tomorrow you have the UK Lotto to play, that’s worth an estimated £4.6 million. Good luck!
