A Lucky Dip lottery ticket bought by a UK lottery player in Carlisle lived up to its name when landing a share of the jackpot on Saturday 14 June. The jackpot fund was worth £12,154,268, so although there were four winning tickets, 51 year old builder Anthony Nutbrown still scooped a massive £3,038,567.
The ticket that changed Anthony’s life was bought at the last minute, as he later explained: “We had arranged a family barbecue on Saturday but we were running out of soft drinks so I went to the shop and decided on the spur of the moment to buy a couple of Lucky Dips while I was waiting in the queue. What a stroke of good luck that turned out to be!”
He discovered precisely how lucky he had been when he turned on the television to see what numbers had been drawn. “I was checking my usual numbers against the draw numbers on Teletext and then remembered the Lucky Dip tickets,” he said. “It was such an unbelievable feeling to find that all six numbers on the ticket matched the jackpot. I had to check and double-check before it finally sunk in.”
Anthony and his partner Patricia Alderson have four children and six grandchildren (with a seventh on the way), and they are now looking forward to taking a holiday so that they can think about how they will spend their Lucky Dip fortune. A Jaguar XKRS and a new home are already on the shopping list. The couple also plan to be generous with their family. After playing the lottery every Saturday since the game was launched, Anthony’s win proves that persistence pays.
“We’re a very close family and winning the lottery means that we can support the children and grandchildren in ways we couldn’t do before,” Anthony said. “It’s a dream come true.”
