Lottery money to keep sport alive

With all thoughts on London 2012, sport has never been so fashionable in the UK and lottery investment will now mean that the sporting facilities and organisations created from the lottery good causes will keep sport alive in the UK long after the games have finished. Olympic chiefs will spend £135 million of lottery cash, after the London 2012 games have ended, to keep young people involved in sport in the UK.
It’s been duly noted that our notable sportsmen and women have been thin on the ground in recent years but this lottery investment could change all that. This money, from the sale of lottery tickets in the UK, will improve regional facilities as well as keeping the Olympic village in use for years to come.
The scheme, called People Places Play, has already launched and it is hoped that the lottery grant backed project will continue to keep people active, long after the Olympic games have finished. Games chief Lord Sebastian Coe said yesterday: "Places People Play will harness the inspirational power of the Olympics to promote sport across the country and leave a lasting legacy."
All this is made possible by your cash, it’s only thanks to the lottery tickets sold here in the UK that this £135 million investment can be made. Speaking of lottery tickets, do you have yours for tomorrow’s National Lottery draw? There’s an estimated £2.4 million jackpot and with 28p in every £1 you spend going to good causes like this one, there’s every reason to play!
