Irish Lottery Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Last Updated: Monday 3rd December 2012, 10:33

The National Lottery in Ireland launched back in the 80s and since then it has been giving players the chance to become millionaires twice a week. September was a special month for the Irish Lottery as it celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event. The Irish Lottery didn’t have a special lottery draw instead gave players the chance to come to a 25th anniversary prize giveaway in which 100 people all won prizes.

The Irish twins Jedward were on hand to give out the prizes which ranged from €5,000 all the way up to €250,000. There weren’t just cash prizes on offer to win but also holidays to great locations and brand new cars.

The prize giveaway took place at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham which is where the Irish Lottery numbers use to be drawn when this lottery first started. Since this National Lottery first started 25 years ago over €6 billion Euros has been won by players and over €4 billion has been raised for good causes which included Youth, Sports, Health, Arts and Culture across Ireland.

Since the Irish Lottery was launched numerous players have become millionaires overnight thanks to this National game. To date the largest Irish Lottery jackpot win took place on the 28th June 2008 when after multiple rollovers the jackpot hit an impressive €18.9 million. In this draw a syndicate of sixteen work colleagues from the Dan Morrissey Ltd quarry and concrete plant in Bennekerry, Carlow matched the six numbers drawn to scoop this jackpot and to this day remain the biggest winners in this National Lottery.
