EuroMillions Winners Celebrate Birth of Daughter Days After Big Win

An engaged couple have welcomed their baby daughter into the world just four days after winning £1 million in the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw. Despite becoming overnight millionaires, Andrew Symes and Natalia Metcalf had to put their celebrations on hold after she went into labour with the birth of their first child.
Labour Pains Whilst Viewing Houses
The couple, who live in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, won the nine-figure windfall on Friday 1st February after their code TJRT44157 was drawn found out they were the lucky Millionaire Maker winners the following day, and Natalie then went into labour shortly after.
The 37-year-old mother said they couldn’t believe their luck at scooping the £1 million prize, and explained: "We downloaded the National Lottery app and scanned the ticket to double-check and that said we’d won too. We just didn’t know what to do though, so Andy ended up going to Tesco where he’d bought the ticket and they told him to call Camelot (the official National Lottery operator in the UK)."
They revealed how they had sold an old pushchair that had been used by their two-year-old son shortly before becoming millionaires, jokingly proclaiming that they had become rich. She continued: "It’s so funny to think of now, but the couple who’d bought our pushchair had paid in cash and I was dancing around the living room singing, ‘We’re rich, we’re rich!’, when Andy turned to me and said, very seriously, ‘Yes, yes, you are!’ and made me check the ticket."
“This Win Really Will Help Us Make All Our Dreams Come True”
After their daughter, Poppy, was born on Sunday 5th February, they claimed their winnings and Andy, who works for a pensions firm, couldn’t contain his excitement after the whirlwind few days. He revealed short-term goals and long-term plans now they are parents and lottery winners, including buying their dream home and having a fairytale wedding.
He said: "I came home and phoned Camelot straight away and they confirmed that we definitely had won £1M and that a Winners’ Advisor would come and see us to pay out the money at 11am on Tuesday, although as it turned out, our baby was born at 10am on Tuesday!
“This win couldn’t have come at a better time. We have our beautiful children and now we can get married and buy a perfect house to raise them in. As well as feeling so happy about the safe arrival of our baby girl, we just feel so relaxed. We’ll be able to buy a home and not even have to worry about a mortgage. To not have to think about that additional cost every month is almost a second windfall in itself."
Natalie was in similar high spirits, proclaiming: “We’d always joked that the only way we could ever afford to buy our own home was if we won the lottery. We didn’t know that that would prove to be true! As well as the house, we’re also going to start planning our wedding. We’ve been engaged for over two years but now we can afford to have the wedding of our dreams without feeling guilty about the costs. This win really will help us make all our dreams come true.”
