The search is on for two mystery Lotto players who each won a share of the £5 million Jackpot-Only draw on 29 April. The winning numbers were 4, 10, 23, 36, 37 and 49, and the players have yet to come forward. Entry to the Jackpot-Only draw was automatic for anyone buying a ticket for the main Lotto Draw on 29 April, and this could explain why the Jackpot-Only winners appear to be oblivious to their £1.6 million wins.
Lotto officials have said that one winning ticket was purchased in the Glasgow area and the other in Warwickshire, and are calling on all players who bought a ticket those regions for the 29 April draw to check their numbers against the Jackpot-Only result. The deadline for claims on this draw is 5:30pm on 26 October, 2006.
Surprisingly, these aren't the only unclaimed prizes that are currently waiting to be claimed. Others include:
- A £250,000 Thunderball Jackpot (1, 11, 18, 25, 33 Thunderball 8) from 11 January, 2006. The ticket was purchased in the Cardiff area.
- A £1.1 million Lotto Jackpot (1, 25, 26, 27, 39, 49) from 21 January, 2006. The ticket was purchased in the Greenwich area.
- A £246,648 Euromillions prize (17, 28, 33, 35, 47 Lucky Stars 4 & 9) from 24 March, 2006. The ticket was purchased in the Portsmouth area.
Players have 180 days from the date of a lottery draw to make a valid claim. If a prize is not claimed then it is added to the fund for Good Causes, which has already raised more than £18.5 billion from ticket sales over the last 11 years.
The best way to avoid missing out on prizes is to establish a checking routine that you follow week after week. We suggest the following:
- Always keep your ticket in a safe place. Having a particular place for your tickets, such as in a certain drawer at home, will dramatically reduce your chances of losing them.
- Check your tickets as soon as possible after a draw. The longer you leave between the draw and checking your tickets, the more likely you are to throw away old winners.
- Check your tickets for other prizes. If you buy a ticket which qualifies for a secondary draw (such as the Jackpot-Only draw mentioned earlier in this news item) be sure to check those results too.
- If you have a winning ticket, make a claim immediately. For large prizes you need to give Camelot a call. Smaller prizes can be collected from your retailer.
Always double-check results from two sources (just in case teletext or a newspaper publisher the wrong results) and only throw away your tickets when you are absolutely sure that they haven't won anything.
